Taking Care of the Throwing Athlete -- ASAP!!
Pitching is a complex activity including not only the arm, but the legs and trunk…all while maintaining exquisite balance. With our
expertise with shoulder and arm problems and our knowledge of pitching mechanics, we still like to work with your pitching coach to
maintain the integrity of your mechanics. While we may tweak your mechanics, it will fit seamlessly with what you are learning since
we keep up to date on current research and development with the same information taught and learned by major league baseball pitching
coaches. And all with the knowledge that no 2 pitchers are exactly alike.
Unlike many other sports, baseball and softball players struggle with relatively fewer injuries than in other sports (football and
it’s traumatic injuries, basketball and it’s ACL tears). The difference is that seemingly small/nagging injuries that football and
basketball players can play through, can significantly effect the baseball and softball player. Most people would wonder why, but
we know how difficult it can be to throw a ball accurately with arm pain of any kind.
Neck, shoulder, elbow, wrist, hand, fingers…they
all play a significant roll in throwing and even the slightest injury can effect your efficiency and success. There is one thing
we know for certain – taking time off is rarely a good idea.
When you begin to have symptoms, it is important to act quickly,
before things get worse. A simple change in your warm-up, a tweak of your stretching/ strengthening routine or a simple post-game
treatment routine can make a big difference. One thing for sure, don’t make the mistake of waiting too long. A small problem can become
a season-ending problem. A quick evaluation could lead us to the source of the problem.
For more persistent problems, therapy
services may be needed to bring your symptoms under control. We are able to offer THE ONLY baseball/softball specific rehabilitation
program in a multi-county area. From therapeutic modalities such as ultrasound, iontophoresis to deep tissue massage and joint mobilizations
and rehabilitation programs to video analysis of your throwing mechanics, we offer a full spectrum of care to keep you in the game.
